Statement: My eye is a lens that is used to view the world and the artistic elements it contains; both natural and manmade. My role is that of a perspective taker, someone who appropriates the work of humans and nature as his own.

Artist Statement: My work explores the leading lines and contrasting colors of city life. I capture how both myself and those around me interact with their surroundings, subtly reflecting on facial expression and properties of light.

My images all focus on nature—primarily its interaction with animals and man-made objects. This is because my main goal in this class is to push myself to take more, and better, photos. As I primarily take photos to capture my various adventures through nature, my gallery represents these topics so as to invite **constructive** criticism on how I can improve such photos both now and in the future.

Previous images used for inspiration:

The focus of my body of work was to explore light and color to produce vibrant images on diverse scales. The images play with the interaction between humanity and nature by showcasing the similar aesthetic present in both worlds.

In my work, I enjoy playing with textures, reflections, and the way that light interacts with my subject. In this particular critique, I tried to frame San Francisco accordingly. As such, during the past month as I traveled through the city, I hunted for and captured these texturally rich subjects to display for my body of work.

I investigate the interactions between living beings and the environment around them -both natural and artificial– to bring more depth to all elements present in the photo.

Working Artist Statement

My photography blurs the boundaries of reality and challenges conventional perspectives through the usage of lighting, saturation, negative space, and angle. Moreover, the absence of an overarching narrative empowers the viewer to create his/her own by tinkering with the abstract.

Suburbia is an intersection between natural and built environments; it is a place where the natural environment itself is constructed to look natural while coexisting seamlessly with houses, roads and cars. This project examines the natural and the built that characterizes suburbia and attempts to find beauty in everyday life.

Artist statement: My subject is the stunningly mundane. I find the cracks in reality and capture glimpses of possibility and stories untold, filtering out the extraneous and leaving the curious.

Identity

For this project I wanted to explore some areas of photography that I am passionate about as well as some that are new, I used a new lens on street photography from above to capture the hardcore women of twin peaks as I see them. I also did an exploration of my identity through a set of photos of objects that have connections to things that define me, arranged in a (hopefully) aesthetically pleasing manner in my room, a place where I spend the majority of my time outside of school. For the last set of photos I thought of the simplicity of some previously taken and some new photos that used the sky as a backdrop and used that simplicity to create a message that I believe is necessary in our world today. In these photos I also experimented with sucking the color out of images, something that those of you who have known me for a while will understand is something that did not come naturally to me. all in all I am still looking for a sole focus of my work and I would love feedback on how to get there.
