Critique 1: Jake

My goal with this project was to take a diversity of images that together capture what someone’s typical day might be like. I wanted to push myself outside of my comfort zone to take a combination of portraits of people, capture nature and the built environment, and finding interesting photos in my own home. These are, I think, the three main aspects of a day: it begins and ends in your home, but you spend most of the day with others in nature or the built environment. In a lot of these images, I tried to play with focus, which I started in the last set of images recreating a dream. I think the power of the photographer is in his/her ability to direct the viewers eye to specific parts of a photo and shape the viewer’s sense of the reality of a photo. I tried to play with that aspect of photography to leave the most interesting part of a photo out of focus. In the future, I want to work on finding good lighting; I found that I had to edit a lot of these photos to make them lighter and even still some seem too dark.
